Welcome to IVAO Australia

Sector Files

In mid 2004, the Australian Division revised the airspace boundaries in use on the IVAN system.  It was determined that, with the advent of IvAc, a new system of airspace management was needed for the Australian Virtual FIRs.

Australian airspace was broken into 17 sectors, called virtual Australian Radar Control Centres, roughly based on the real world Area QNH Boundaries as shown on Planning Chart Australia (PCA).  Each sector has at least one major airport which provides METAR data for the entire sector, allowing controllers to issue area QNH to pilots flying in their sector.

In mid 2008, following a 3-month analysis and investigation into our airspace arrangement and usage, a decision has been made to bandbox (replace) our existing 19 Centre (CTR) positions with just 8!

Information

Sector File Updates are happening almost on a monthly basis.    Check the Australian Division Forums for information on the latest versions available.

Errors and Omissions

Sector files contain thousands of lines of code (typically over 10,000) and, whilst every effort is made to ensure that the data is accurate, it is always possible that an error or omission sneaks through the system.    If you notice an error - or what appears to be an error - please email the Assistant Director with as much detail as possible so that it can be investigated and, if necessary, corrected.

Creating Sector Files

We do not encourage members to make their own sector files as they will, for the most part, be inaccurate and well below Division Standard.

Sector files used by the Division are standardised for content and format with other Divisions within the Oceania region and reflect, as far as is possible, the actual real world airspace within Australia.    Members wishing to have a go at designing their own sector files should go to this page  where you will get all the information you need in order to design a sector file for the Australian Division.

Before privately created sector files are used online however they must (a) be accurate to current Airservices Australia data, (b) be designed to the standards set down for the Oceania Region and (c) be approved for use by the ATC Operations Coordinator.
