Sydney (Kingsford Smith) Airport (also known as Kingsford-Smith Airport and Sydney Airport) (IATA: SYD, ICAO: YSSY) is located in the suburb of Mascot in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. It is the major airport serving Sydney, and is a major hub for Qantas.

Sydney Airport is one of the oldest continually operated airports in the world, and the busiest airport in Australia, handling 33.4 million passengers and 289,741 aircraft movements in 2009. It was the 28th busiest airport in the world in 2009. The airport is managed by Sydney Airport Corporation Limited (SACL) and the current CEO is Russell Balding.

Situated next to Botany Bay, the airport has three runways, colloquially known as the "East-West", "North-South" and "Third" runways.

Landing patterns and approach

Sydney Airport resides within the Melbourne FIR, which is managed by Melbourne Centre and operated by Airservices Australia.

Sydney Approach Control then guides the aircraft to their final approach. Once an aircraft is established on its final approach, control is handed over to Sydney Tower.
